Certification Programs
ASME administers five certification programs for technical personnel based on ASME standards which define the necessary qualifications of the individuals.

Operations of Resource Recovery Facilities Processing Municipal Solid Waste (QRO)
  • Applies to persons who hold, or wish to hold, the positions of Shift Supervisor or Chief Facility Operator
  • Candidates are required to meet minimum education and experience requirements and pass a written multiple-choice examination for provisional certification
  • Full certification is obtained through a site-specific oral examination
Operators of Medical Waste Incinerators (QMO)
  • Applies to persons who hold, or wish to hold, the positions of Operator or Operator Supervisor
  • Candidates are required to demonstrate proficiency in the operation of the equipment and pass a written multiple-choice examination.
  • "Special Class" operator certification is also available for persons in related fields (regulatory personnel, trainers, equipment manufacturers, etc.)
Operators of Hazardous Waste Incinerators (QHO)
  • Applies to Control Room Operators, Field Operators (waste receiving and handling, field equipment operation, and residual handling), and Supervisors
  • Candidates are required to complete training in safety, combustion fundamentals, and basic operation, and pass a written multiple-choice examination for provisional certification
  • Full certification is obtained through a site-specific oral examination
Operators of High Capacity Fossil Fuel Fired Plants (QFO)
  • Applies to operators of oil, gas and coal fired boilers with heat input greater than 10,000 BTU/hr
  • Certification criteria will include evaluation of qualifications in both safety and air emissions
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Professionals Certification Exam (GDTP)
  • To certify your competence in using the Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Y14.5 Standard, register now for the new certification exam sponsored by ASME. You can obtain certification on one of the following two levels...
  • Technologist GDTP which provides objective measure of your ability to understand drawings prepared using Y14.5 Standard
  • Senior GDTP which provides additional objective measure of your ability to select geometric controls and apply them properly to drawings
